Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School is located at Abrepo near Bohyen on KumasiBarekese Road. The school stands on a beautiful high plateau as if to say “all the world is not a common flat plain”. The distance is about 8 kilometres from Kejetia. (The Central Business Area of Kumasi) Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School was established as a private secondary school for girls in the late 1950’s by Mr. Caxton Williams, a Sierra Leonean.
At first, the school was situated at Susuanso, near Bomso, close to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on the Kumasi-Accra Road. In the early 1960’s, the proprietor relocated the school to Old Tafo in rented premises. The Government took over in 1963. Miss Beatrice Kankam was appointed the first Headmistress by the Ghana Education Service. The first batch of students who completed in 1968 numbered twenty (20). In 1992 the school was moved to its present and permanent site at Abrepo. Currently, the school can boast of three thousand and two hundred (3,200) students.
Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School cannot be left out when talking about academic excellence. The school has put in a lot of strategies and provided a conducive environment for teaching and learning. As a result, WASSCE results keep on improving. Among the products of the school are Ohemmaa Dr. Susan Oforiwaa Koduah (Associate Professor, George Mason University School of Nursing, U.S.A.), Ohemmaa Dr. Amma Abrafi Adjei (University of Education, Winneba) and Ohemmaa Dr. Patricia Ananga (University of Education, Winneba), just to mention a few. Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School is noted for its prowess in sports. The school has won several trophies. Notable among them are three times champions of the Sprite Basketball Tournament, National Hockey Tournament, Badminton, Netball, just to mention a few. The school has produced great athletes like Janet Amponsah (National Athlete – High Jump; best in Africa), Doris Boaduwaa (Black Queens), Rafiatu (Ghana
Army), and a host of them are in the security services across the country.
